WSU geologist attends NSF Cutting Edge Workshop
WSU geology professor, Larry Lemke, attended a week-long National Science Foundation Cutting Edge Workshop called Teaching Hydrogeology in the 21st Century.
College instructors from across the country met at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln this summer to confer on curriculum and discuss effective teaching methods for undergraduate studies in hydrogeology. Together, the 70 participants are constructing a web page with teaching resources for college instructors.
Dr. Lemke, who is an assistant professor in the geology department and Environmental Science Program at Wayne State University, was selected as the leader of the workgroup focusing on helping students to go beyond rote answers to hydrogeological problems and into the realm of critical thinking.
Examples that illustrate the need for interpretation or decision making after the 'results' of a hydrogeologic analysis have been obtained can be found under the 'Got Data? So What!' workgroup report.
