New part-time faculty brings GIS to the environmental science program

The Environmental Science Program (ESP) welcomes F. Gianluca Sperone, a new part-time faculty member in geology, who brings extensive experience using geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing to create maps and databases for environmental applications to the program.

Gianluca holds B.S. and M.S. Geology degrees from the University of Calabria, as well as an M.A. in urban and environmental geography from the University of Chicago. His research interests include geospatial analysis of environmental phenomena including adaptation of ecological system components to climate change and spatiotemporal analysis of distributions of environmental pollutants.

He is teaching an Applied Geologic Mapping course at WSU in fall 2012.
