Dr. Mark Baskaran awarded NSF grant studying radioactive isotopes

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Baskaran for being awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant!

This project, GEOTRACES Arctic Section: Application of 210-Po and 210-Pb Distribution at Contrasting Interfaces Regimes of Western Arctic, will consist of a team of investigators participating in the 2015 U.S. Arctic GEOTRACES expedition where the distribution of the naturally-occurring radioactive isotopes Pb-210 and Po-210 in the Western and Central Arctic Ocean will be studied.

The measurements yielded will aid in identifying processes and quantifying fluxes that control the distribution of key trace elements and isotopes (TEIs) in the ocean. They will also help to establish the sensitivity of these distributions to changing environmental conditions.
