A message from Environmental Science Director Donna Kashian
The last few years have been an exciting time for the Environmental Science Program at Wayne State University. Established as a collaborative program in 2003 between the geology and biological sciences departments the program has continued to grow.
In 2020 it moved into the geology department, which resulted in a renaming to the Department of Environmental Science and Geology, and a modernized curriculum was launched in the fall of 2021.
A core value of our program is the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum coupled with the commitment to a sense of community both within the university but also beyond the walls of WSU. Through a professional development seminar and internships, we provide opportunities for students to engage with practitioners in the field on and off-campus beyond traditional departmental offerings.
Set in the heart of Detroit, environmental science at WSU provides research and learning opportunities in every aspect of the city and beyond, and we pride ourselves on community engagements that enhance our learning environment in a way that I believe you cannot find anywhere else.
