Meet economics honors major, Aayush Mittal
A Q&A with economics honors major, Aayush Mittal.
What are you doing now, and what are your career plans?
I recently graduated from WSU with an economics honors degree and a co-major in University Honors. I will be pursuing a master of science in health systems management this upcoming fall at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Here, I will be pursuing my degree as well as working in the hospital as a project assistant. I plan to attend medical school in the near future and aspire to have a career as a practicing clinician and administrator in a health system.
How have the economics courses and training you had at Wayne State University been helpful to you?
The economic courses at WSU have given me a solid foundation of topics that I will learn more about as an administrator. More specifically, the healthcare economics course helped me shape my future career goals. This course, along with my thesis in this subject, has helped me expand my knowledge about healthcare economics, a topic that ties in well with my future career ambitions.
What advice would you have for current and future students in economics?
To all future students in economics at WSU, make use of the professors and faculty in the department. Ranae is one of the best advisors WSU has. Make sure to discuss your educational goals with her in order to stay on track. In addition, the economics department has some very down to earth and helpful professors as a part of the faculty – make sure to get to know them personally as their experiences can help you in the future as well. I once spent a large portion of an interview simply discussing the WSU economics faculty, as they are so highly regarded. Best of luck!
