Meet Christopher DeCarlo, M.A. '15

A Q&A with grad student, Christopher DeCarlo.

What are you doing now, and what are your career plans? 

Currently I am working in the Benchmark division of the Current Employment Statistics program with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. I just recently began classes toward my Ph.D. at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.

How have the economics courses and training you had at Wayne State been helpful to you?

The courses I took at Wayne State have helped me adjust to a more rigorous pursuit of economic theory and my Ph.D. They taught me how to think and be more efficient in my work and gave me perspective and knowledge that I find very useful in my current position.

What advice would you have for current and future students in economics? 

For any student I would strongly recommend investing time in learning a statistical programming language like SAS, STATA, or R. In order to be able to write papers at a high academic and professional level, or to find any work in research you have to be able to program and that is something I am playing catch-up with, which I sincerely regret.
