Department of Economics launches first course in venture capital

WSU alum and noted venture capital investor William Thomason to lead Venture Capital, Entrepreneurship and Impact Investing

Wayne State University's Department of Economics is launching a dynamic new course in venture capital investing - the first course of its kind in the university's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Taught by renowned social entrepreneur, impact investor and Wayne State public affairs alumnus William Thomason, Venture Capital, Entrepreneurship and Impact Investing will give students an inside look at the venture capital industry and social impact investing. The course, which begins in the winter 2016 semester, will prepare students for everything from launching a company and raising money with venture capital investors to identifying the career tracks necessary to become a successful venture capital investor.

"College students are now aware that entrepreneurship is a viable career option," says Thomason. "Venture capital and social impact investing are a part of that same ecosystem."

Venture Capital, Entrepreneurship and Impact Investing will be formally launched during a networking event and reception at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place at the Spencer Partrich Auditorium, located in Wayne State University's Law School. Any students interested in taking the course should plan on attending.
