Wayne State's University's Another Chance program received its first grant of $20,000 from Reading Works. The program is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Africana studies department under the leadership of Professor Daphne W. Ntiri.

The grant will increase literacy training services to Detroiters needing academic skills in order to earn their GED prior to transitioning into higher education or the world of work.

Another Chance is a decentralized adult learning program serving students from 18 to 50+ in various ethnic and faith-based locations of the city. It receives its primary funding from the federal government under the WIA Title II Act and has been in operation at WSU since 2009.
