African American Studies to honor the life and legacy of Professor Emeritus Perry Mars
Wayne State University's Department of African American Studies will honor the life of Professor Emeritus Perry Mars during a memorial service on Friday, Oct. 7.
Mars, a longtime faculty member in the department, made outstanding scholarly contributions to understanding Caribbean politics, race and ethnic relations, and Peace and Conflict. His life was tragically cut short earlier this year in his native country of Guyana.
"Perry Mars represents the best of African American Studies. His scholarship, teaching, and service were excellent models for students considering academic careers. He will be missed but not forgotten." Ollie Johnson, Chair of the Department of African American Studies.
The Department of African American Studies invites the entire campus community to celebrate Mars' legacy and to launch the new Perry Mars Endowed Scholarship in African American Studies.
The event will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 in the ballroom of WSU's Student Center Building.
