The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is proud to welcome its newest Warriors to campus! We asked first-year students about their dreams and plans for the next four years and beyond. This is the "CLAS" of 2028!
I am positioning myself to contribute to vital changes in the justice system, striving for fairness and equality. I aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of people who lack financial resources or access to opportunities, reflecting the support and belief that others have shown me. My goal is to create pathways for success and offer hope, ensuring that my achievements also empower and uplift those who need it most.
Seeing people struggle throughout the COVID pandemic inspired me to become a nurse to help others achieve their life goals. I see myself happily working with my degree and helping people receive the best medical care possible so they have a wonderful and healthy future.
I've always wanted to be in the medical field and be able to help people just like my mom. I chose to attend Wayne State because she went here. She's always been the person I have looked up to most.
I was inspired to choose my major because growing up in an Arab household, speaking on mental health was something looked down on. The idea of going to therapy was such a foreign thought in my family. I want to be someone that Arab-American youth can relate to and be an outlet for those who feel they couldn’t at home.
When COVID hit, the way the number of cases quickly accelerated throughout the world with no way of stopping it really caught my attention. It inspired me to pursue public health to help make a difference.
I would like to help aid as many people as possible — from charity work to organizations. Once I become a doctor, my goal is to help ease the pain of all my patients and take the best care of them. I got accepted to three other great universities but Wayne State stood out the most for me – the location, the community and how accepting and loving everyone is there.
A problem I want to fix in society is deadly childbirths in women, but specifically minorities. There have been so many mothers or babies who have died due to discrimination or another problem that could have been fixed. I hope that when my time here is done, I was a part of something bigger than myself. I do not know what I will do for the world yet, but I do know that I want to leave a lasting impression.
I want to fix corruption and the idea of a lower class. When people come to me in need of a lawyer, I want to be the one who they can depend on based on my morals, shown through my actions.
Over the next four years, I am most excited to watch my peers and myself grow, to make new friends and to engage myself in the welcoming community at Wayne State University. I look forward to diving into my academic interests, exploring diverse perspectives and taking on new challenges that will push me beyond my comfort zone.
I’ve always loved psychology and used it to understand the world. I want to help people understand themselves and open up to a healing, better world. Not only is Wayne State close to home, I love the mindset and the sports!
I really want to help people realize that it’s okay to be angry or upset. I want to help people deal with their emotions. It’s better to let it out rather than to hold it in. In 10 years, I will hopefully be running my own clinic and getting people the help they need and deserve.
I want to go out into the world and help younger kids be better at math through tutoring. I chose Wayne State University because it is close to home and my family, so I can visit. My goal this semester is to do great and let nothing distract or stop me from getting things done.
I was inspired to pursue a degree in law because I want to empower victims of domestic violence so that they can pursue justice and safety for themselves without the fear of being shamed. In ten years, I plan on pursuing my goal of empowering victims of violence by providing access to counseling resources and a steady, reliable prosecution process to ensure the safety and stability of a client's future.
Growing up with poor mental health, I never had anyone to help me with it. I want to help people do what I couldn’t do, talk about their feelings and get things off their chest. A problem in society I would fix is health care, lowering the cost of mental and physical health in doctor’s offices and clinics.
A change in perspective can completely change the course of someone's life, and that ripples out to change the world a little bit itself. I'd like to do that on as large of a scale as possible.
I want to have an insightful view on not just criminal behavior but the "why's" behind it. Why are certain crimes committed? What drove criminals to act in such a way? What events in criminals' lives brought them to this path? I see myself working for agencies and the police in helping them use not just evidence to solve crimes but also to use psychological aspects of criminals to solve them.
