Sociology program ranked as one of the top in the country

The Wayne State University Department of Sociology has been ranked as one of the top programs in the country. U.S. News & World Report released its 2019 Best Graduate program rankings and placed Wayne State's sociology program at 87th in the nation.

"This is terrific news and well-deserved recognition of our faculty's sustained efforts and achievements as scholars, mentors and department citizens," says Jeffrey Kentor, professor and chair of the Department of Sociology. "With the continued commitment and engagement of my colleagues, I am confident that we will maintain our upward trajectory in the coming years."

According to U.S. News & World Report, the Best Graduate Schools rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students.

Wayne State University is a premier public, urban research university in the heart of Detroit, with a history of opportunity and nationally recognized academics spanning 150 years.
