Chemistry professor establishes scholarship in memory of student
CLAS highlights student scholarship for Giving Day 2017
Uzoma Azuh was passionate about helping people. He wanted to become a doctor so he could do just that.
Uzo received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wayne State and was a second-year student in WSU's School of Medicine when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Even after his diagnosis, he worked tirelessly to promote the National Marrow Donor Program to support others suffering from leukemia.
Uzo succumbed to the disease in 2007, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. Recently, a professor in the Department of Chemistry created a $50,000 scholarship in his memory. The Uzoma Azuh Endowed Memorial Research Scholarship in Chemistry encourages students to pursue undergraduate research with as much enthusiasm and dedication as Uzo did.
If you, too, are inspired to give by Uzo's story, make a gift to his memorial scholarship and include "Uzoma Azuh Scholarship" as the designation. To make a gift to a different area of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, visit the CLAS Giving Page.
