Lawyers Look Like Me: a diversity campaign by Wayne State University Law School students
The Lawyers Look Like Me campaign was created by Wayne State University Law School students to highlight the importance of diverse voices in law.
The Wayne Law Diversity Coalition was formed in the spring of 2020 as a student-driven effort to bring together the law school’s many student organizations that aim to support historically underrepresented law students. It now functions as a growing umbrella organization that currently includes the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, the Black Law Students Association, the Latinx Law Students Association, the Middle Eastern Law Students Association, the Muslim Law Students Association, OutLaws, and the Women’s Law Caucus.
The WLDC and its affiliated organizations welcome all members of the law school community to attend their meetings and join in their initiatives. The Lawyers Look Like Me campaign aims to promote the message that lawyers can come from a wide variety of backgrounds and identities, celebrate the law school’s historically underrepresented law students, and highlight the importance of diversifying the legal profession.
A portion of the proceeds from t-shirt sales will go towards the creation of a WLDC fund, which will support student-powered diversity initiatives moving forward.
