Biology graduate students take six awards at the 2015 graduate exhibition
Graduate students from the Department of Biological Sciences take six awards at the 2015 Wayne State University Graduate Exhibition, including first place, two second place, and three third-place awards.
Divya Subramonian, a Ph.D. candidate from Xiang-Dong Zhang's laboratory took first place for her poster "Polymeric SUMO-2/3 Modification at Kinetochores Is Required for Mitotic Progression."
Two second-place winners went to the posters "Identifying a chromosome in Drosophila melanogaster : a repeating idea?" by Sonal S. Joshi, a Ph.D. student of Dr. Victoria Meller, and "Synaptotagmin-1 and Synaptotagmin-7 differ in their stimulus and Ca2+- dependence of activation," first authored by Tejeshwar C. Rao from Dr. Arun Anantharam's lab.
The three third-place awards went to "Bipartite Sequences Redundantly Facilitate the Fusion of HSV-1 ICP0 with Nuclear Domain 10 and Affect Degradation of A Subset of Promyelocytic Leukemia Protein" (graduate student Yi Zhang and Dr. Haidong Gu), "How does Ago2 contribute to dosage compensation in Drosophila melanogaster?" (graduate student Nikita Deshpande and Dr. Victoria H. Meller), and "Cardiolipin deficiency leads to decreased acetyl CoA levels and metabolic deficiencies" (graduate student Vaishnavi Raja and Dr. Miriam L.Greenberg).
