Aleksandar Popadic awarded President's Award for Excellence
The President's Award for Excellence in Teaching is designed to recognize outstanding contributions in teaching. This year's recipient is Dr. Aleksandar Popadic, an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Dr. Popadic is known for his warmth and discursive style of teaching in which he encourages and motivates his students to participate in the learning process. At the undergraduate level, he teaches the capstone course for our biology majors, evolution. Dr. Popadic challenges students to explore the concepts and experimentation that is the basis of modern evolutionary theory, the unifying principle of all of modern biology.
Additionally, Dr. Popadic teaches graduate courses in the interface of evolution and developmental genetics, an area of expertise in which he has published extensively. We congratulate Dr. Popadic on bringing his scientific passion to his teaching and for winning this year's President's Award for Excellence in Teaching at Wayne State University.
The Department of Biological Sciences is extremely proud of our faculty's commitment to teaching and the contributions to a quality education at Wayne State. Dr. Popadic joins Dr. Carl Freeman, Dr. Philip Cunningham, and Dr. Mark VanBerkum as the fourth President's Excellence in Teaching Awardee presently in our department.
