Portrait of Aimee Kotrba

Aimee Kotrba: Owner of two successful behavioral clinics treating children and adolescents

Aimee Kotrba received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Wayne State University in 2007 and is currently the owner and director of Thriving Minds Behavioral Health in Brighton and Thriving Minds Family Services in Chelsea.

Both clinics specialize in the treatment of children and adolescents using evidence-based interventions, but the Chelsea clinic also provides wrap-around psychological services for parents and couples impacted by the stress of having a child with special needs.

Aimee also teaches as an adjunct professor at Michigan State University in the school psychology department and published Selective Mutism: An Assessment and Intervention Guide for Therapists, Educators, and Parents in 2015. She is currently working on her second book, a parent workbook/manual for families of children with selective mutism.

Aimee spends much of her time teaching, conducting workshops, supervising, and treating children with selective mutism, a childhood anxiety disorder impacting the ability to speak in specific social situations (while being able to speak well in the home or comfortable settings).

She is passionate about spreading awareness of selective mutism, and also enjoys teaching early career psychologists about running a business in psychology (a topic not many psychologists learn about in graduate school).
