The Math Department Welcomes Professor Yan Wang
Yan Wang recently joined the math department as a faculty member after earning his second PhD in statistics from Iowa State University. He earned his first PhD in theoretical physics from Beijing Normal University in 2010. He worked as an assistant, then associate, professor in an engineering department at a Chinese university from 2010 to 2017. His long-term research interest is about addressing uncertainties in physical and engineering problems. His previous work includes chaotic dynamics, stochastic modeling of flow and transport in porous media, finite-time thermodynamics, etc. He is currently working on constructing prediction intervals for machine learning algorithms with guaranteed non-asymptotic coverage probabilities. He is also interested in developing information-theoretic bounds with applications in stochastic thermodynamics and in both classical and quantum hypothesis testing. Welcome to Wayne State, Professor Wang!
