Maria Berishaj is one of the math department’s newest graduate teaching assistants. She is a first-year master’s student studying pure mathematics. Before starting the department’s graduate program and pursuing a GTA position, Maria was a tutor in the Math Resource Center while working on her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and mathematical economics.

In addition to tutoring, she was an intern at Ally Financial where she worked on data analytics. She has also served as a member of Phi Beta Kappa for many years.

Currently, she is working on a research project with Professor Andrew Salch studying topological data analysis while taking graduate-level courses such as topology and advanced abstract algebra. In addition to taking graduate-level courses, studying, and doing research with Professor Salch, she still tutors in the MRC for a few hours a week.

Maria plans to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics and is working toward becoming a math professor.
