Donald Sherry joined the Department of Mathematics initially as a student, and quickly advanced into a lecturer role. He received his B.S. degree in Secondary Education in 1990 and his M.A. in Mathematics in 1994. Before advancing into a Senior Lecturer position, he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Workshop Leader during the initial year of the Emerging Scholars Program (ESP) here at Wayne State University's Mathematics Department. ESP is a program within the Center for Excellence in Equity and Mathematics (CEEM) under the direction of Dr. Steven Kahn. It is an honors-level calculus and pre-calculus program that focuses on a shared commitment to excellence and a strong sense of community.

Outside of Wayne State University, he has instructed math courses at Henry Ford College and at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic High School.

Donald Sherry is currently a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Mathematics. His primary focus is teaching MAT 2020 and directing workshops for MAT 2010 under ESP.

His advice to current students searching for a career: "If you're the naturally sociable type, and feel more at home inside than outside a classroom, and love helping and guiding students to discover the beauty that is mathematics, please give serious thought to becoming an educator. Those who can, teach."
