Welcome from the chair, Anne Duggan

Anne DugganCMLLC had an exciting winter 2017 and we've been busy at work this summer as well! On January 27, we hosted our Second Annual Winter Ball, which brings student organizations together from our diverse language programs.

Our Director of Global Studies, Dr. Laura Kline, created exciting venues for students, including a symposium on "Energy: Issues, Innovations, Implications," a #RefugeesWelcome event, and several Global Studies Hangouts for students to meet with faculty from across the university.

This summer the department has been involved in three conferences. In June, spearheaded by our admirable Associate Chair Elena Past, WSU hosted the Biennial Conference of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE), which brought over a thousand scholars and activists to WSU.

Dr. Kline along with Professor emerita Margaret Winters organized events around Chekov's The Black Monk, which included a film screening and a performance by Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. Finally, the first week of August we will be hosting Thinking with Stories in Times of Conflict: A Conference in Fairy-Tale Studies. We are looking forward to an exciting 2017-18 with more events sure to appeal to students, faculty, and alumni!
