Dr. Howard recipient of 2018 WSU Board of Governors Faculty Recognition Award

Dr. Jeff Howard is one of five Wayne State University professors honored with the 2018 WSU Board of Governors Faculty Recognition Award for the publication of his book Anthropogenic Soils. The awards are given annually to WSU faculty distinguishing themselves with major scholarly achievements.

Anthropogenic soils are soils altered by human activities in the urban or suburban environment as well as in mining operations. This is an emerging area in soil science (the Soil Science Society of America just created an Urban and Anthropogenic Soils Division in 2013). Of course, it is also very relevant to Wayne State University's urban mission. Dr. Howard has been studying urban soils in Detroit for the past three decades.
