English professor receives tenure and promotion

Hilary Fox has been awarded tenure and promoted to the rank of associate professor. A specialist in Old English literature, Professor Fox studies selfhood, gender, and emotion in the period between the seventh and twelfth centuries.

Her tenure case was based on The Incorporated Self in Early Modern England (forthcoming from Medieval Institute Publications), which explores how Old English writers sought to develop an “ideal” individual who belonged to a network of relationships that dictated particular kinds of behaviors and ethics.

This monograph thus examines some of the earliest examples of self-formation and self-care in the English language, illuminating an exciting new angle on the history of the self. Professor Fox is also a beloved teacher who received a CLAS Teaching Award in 2018 in recognition of her achievements in the classroom.

Congratulations to Professor Fox on receiving tenure and promotion!
