CSD welcomes new chair, Dr. Margaret Greenwald

Dr. Margaret Greenwald became chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders on July 15. Dr. Greenwald is a researcher in the area of aphasia and related cognitive disorders in adults who have suffered stroke or head injury.

She is currently studying visual processing disorders that affect reading and object recognition, and she is also conducting related clinical aphasia treatment studies. Dr. Greenwald has studied brain-behavior relationships in healthy volunteers and stroke survivors.

The CSD department has two in-house clinics: the WSU Speech and Language Center and the Audiology Clinic. CSD students and faculty are closely involved with the community in providing clinical services to a wide network of schools, clinics and hospitals throughout the region, and in speech and hearing sciences research.

Dr. Greenwald is a clinical speech-language pathologist certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She teaches doctoral seminars and graduate courses in research methods, adult cognitive-linguistic disorders, and neuromuscular disorders.

As new department chair, Dr. Greenwald has praised the dedication and teamwork of the CSD faculty and staff. New programs for clinical education and research are underway. The faculty will develop the objectives of a new five-year department plan at a faculty retreat in October.
