Journal of Biological Chemistry Selects Article by Cunqi Ye As Paper of the Week

Cunqi Ye, a PhD student under the mentorship of Professor Miriam Greenberg, was recently recognized by the Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC) for his important work described in his article "Regulation of Inositol Metabolism Is Fine-tuned by Inositol Pyrophosphates in Saccharomyces cerevisiae." Dr. Greenberg's laboratory is internationally known for research on the biochemistry of phospholipids and their effects on human disease conditions. Cunqi Ye's work has shown that inositol pyrophosphates are novel regulators of the gene INO1, and thus modulate the biosynthesis of inositol and phospholipids. Regulation of phospholipids that are major components of intracellular membranes, such as the mitochondrial membrane lipid cardiolipin, can have major effects on the physiology of the cell and the tissue in which it is found. Understanding the links between the cellular metabolism and the whole organismal physiology is key to unraveling and ultimately curing many metabolic diseases in humans. Hence, this selection by JBC of the article highlights the novelty and importance of Cunqi's findings.
