Despina Tsitlakidou wins Heberlein teaching award

We are proud to announce that Despina Tsitlakidou has won the 2020 Garrett T. Heberlein Excellence in Teaching Award for Graduate Students. Despina is an MS student investigating insect developmental genetics in the laboratory of Dr. Aleksandar Popadic. Despina plans to attend medical school after completing her degree.

Garrett Heberlein was the first Vice President for Research at Wayne State, serving from 1985-96. He returned to teaching in Biological Sciences until his retirement in 2005. The endowed award in his name honors and elevates teaching as an integral part of graduate education that prepares students for careers as intellectual leaders.
