Sample article: Winter 2021: Law and the African American Experience

Below is an example course announcement properly formatted for web pages.

Important: Never just post a graphic flyer/PDF alone. This is an accessibility concern and will be removed. While alt text on the image is appropriate, alt text alone is not suitable for communicating vast amounts of text that may be on a flyer. To make this accessible, you must replicate the information on the flyer within the body of the page itself as text, so that it is consumable but all persons regardless of disability. Graphics and PDFs should not replace the information on the web page itself.

Here are the criteria to follow for such posts:

  • Do not repeat the title of the article/post in the page. List the title once in the title field. Some example titles might be:
    • "New course: Law and the African American Experience"
    • "Winter 2021: Law and the African American Experience"
  • The title should be descriptive and not vague, e.g., "African American course." If in doubt, use the format above
  • Include an introduction (message) and description to the intended audience (current students) on page
  • Make sure that all of the relevant information is included:
    • Course number and title
    • Description of course and instructor
    • Introduction (why a student should be interested in this)
    • Course days/times
    • Relevant deadlines
    • Other pertinent information
  • Include a link to registration. If you're going to invest the time to announce a course on the website, help the user follow up with the desired result by including a link to the course registration page
  • Follow the university style guide for all other formatting rules in AP style:
    • Single space after periods
    • Course names and other proper nouns (only) should be capitalized
  • Use Grammarly or another preferred spelling/grammar checker for your content as you edit
