Variety and flexibility are the keystones of our undergraduate program, which is designed to accommodate the multiple interests and pre-professional needs of our diverse student population. All members of our gifted and productive faculty teach undergraduate courses. We are proud of the tradition of teaching excellence that earns us both high student ratings and many College and University teaching awards.
Our requirements allow students to shape their programs according to their own interests. English majors may concentrate in a variety of areas, not only in literature, critical theory and writing, but also in interdisciplinary fields such as Women's Studies, African-American Studies, Linguistics, Folklore, Film Studies, and American Studies.
We are able to provide financial aid for our majors through a variety of English Department scholarships. English majors may also obtain financial support and in-field experience through our Internship Program.
